Udupi, Jan 25: At least 12 monkeys were found dead in different parts of Udupi district in last two days. While 5 carcasses of monkeys were found on Wednesday, 7 more were found on Thursday.
Prashant Bhat, District Nodal Officer for Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD), said that a monkey each was found dead at Tallur, Mandady, Harlady, Kavrady, Belve, Shedimane, and Kukkehalli villages in the district on Thursday.
The viscera of a monkey each from Tallur and Kukkehalli had been sent for testing for KFD to both the Viral Diagnostic Laboratory in Shivamogga and the Manipal Centre for Virus Research in Manipal.
The viscera of 28 monkeys had been sent for testing for KFD virus from thedistrict since January 8. Of these, the results for 21 cases were available — 12 had tested positive for KFD virus while nine had tested negative.
The blood sample of a person from Shankarnarayana, who got admitted to the District Government Hospital with symptoms of KFD on Wednesday, tested negative for the disease.So far, blood samples of six persons had been sent for testing for KFD in the district and all had tested negative for the disease, Dr. Bhat said.
Hence, there are no suspected or positive cases of KFD among people in Udupi district so far.
