Mangalore, Jan 15: Twelve students undergoing training for JEE-advanced and JEE-main at Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL), Kuntikan Junction, Mangalore, have made it to second stage physics, chemistry, mathematics, astronomy and biology Olympiads.
While nine of the 12 students have been selected for chemistry Olympiad, two each have been selected for astronomy, mathematics and biology Olympiads and one for physics Olympiad.
These selected students are eligible to appear for the second stage of the examinations which will be held in February. These examinations will select candidates to represent the country in international Olympiads.
Students selected to participate in the mathematics Olympiads will attend a training camp at Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore, in January to prepare for the second stage of examination.
In 2009, three students were selected for Olympiads from Mangalore. In 2013, the number touched 12.
In 2012, Sunil Simha was one among the 35 students in India to reach the third stage and had an opportunity to attend an orientation-camp at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Mumbai.
Students qualifying for the second stage are: Sumith (physics, chemistry, astronomy); Nithin Krishnaraj K (chemistry, biology); Vivek Prakash (chemistry, astronomy); Ranjana Kasangeri and Vilas M (mathematics); and Vikyath Shetty, Sriwidya Ramana, Mahendra K, Amrita Sinha, Karthik Prabhu, and Sanjan Prakash (all chemistry); and Vaishnavi Prakash (biology).
