The father was arrested on Friday, based on a complaint lodged by the victim's mother. He was booked on charges of rape and sodomy.
The accused's name was not released by the authorities. Police officers only said that the family stays in Bhuvaneshwarinagar near Kengeri, Dodda Basti, Ramanagaram district.
The accused is a construction labourer and his wife a garment factory employee. The victim has two brothers and is a I PU student.
The rape came to light when the student was admitted to ESI hospital in Dodda Basti after she complained of ill health. Doctors found her to be pregnant and informed her mother.
The mother confronted her daughter over the issue and was shocked when told that the father was the culprit. The girl said she kept quiet over the sexual assaults for more than three months as her father had threatened her.
Based on a tip-off from the doctors, police arrived at the hospital and took a written complaint from the victim's mother. An investigating officer said the accused was an alcoholic. Quoting from the probe report, NH Ramalinge Gowda, Ramanagaram district deputy superintendent of police, said, "The mother and two brothers used to be out of the house in the evenings. During this period, the accused would come home and rape his daughter who would have returned from college."
