Mumbai, Aug 16: Two people died and at least 197 injured due in Dahi Handi-related incidents across Mumbai. The incidents occurred while forming human pyramids on Janamashtami.
The first incident took place in Palghar around 6.30 pm when 21-year-old Rohan Gopinath Kini, the 'Govinda', died after falling during human pyramid formation in Dhansar Kashipada. The second case was reported from Mumbai's Airoli where 34-year-old Nagesh Sainath Parle died of electrocution, reported news agency.
In last five years, nearly 1,171 govindas have been injured and five lost their lives while attempting to break the dahi handis.
The Supreme Court had earlier banned youth below the age of 18 to participate in Dahi Handi rituals and restricted the height of the human pyramid to 20 feet.
