Mangaluru, Aug 23: One of the prime accused in the murder of RSS activist Sharath Madiwala was arrested by the Dakshina Kannada police on Tuesday. With this, the police have arrested 10 persons in connection with the case.
Superintendent of Police C.H. Sudheer Kumar Reddy gave the name of the prime accused as Sharief, 20, son of Ismail, a resident of Alady near Sajipamunnoor in Bantwal. He was among the two persons accused of attacking Sharath in B.C. Road on July 4 resulting in his death at a hospital in Mangaluru on July 7. Another accused Kalandar Shafi is still at large.
The police on Tuesday also arrested Jabbar, 29, son of Aboobacker, resident of Ramakunja of Puttur. Jabbar had arranged vehicles for the travel of the accused, he said.
Mr. Reddy said the police produced Jabbar before the jurisdictional magistrate, who allowed police custody for seven days. Sharief will be produced before the magistrate on Wednesday, he said in a statement. Sharief is reportedly associated with the Popular Front of India. Kalandar Shafi is said to have gone abroad, police sources said.
