Bengaluru, Oct 24: In a bizarre incident, two students who had gone to their college in a drunken condition jumped from the second floor after being scolded by the principal.
The incident took place at St Claret College at Jalahalli area in Bengaluru on Monday. Both the students were immediately taken to MS Ramaiah hospital and they are said to be out of danger.
Their parents did not file a complaint, but the two students gave a statement to the Jalahalli police on Tuesday.
A senior police officer said that the incident occurred around 1.30 pm. As the two students were attending classes, one of their classmates could smell alcohol on them, and alerted the class teacher.
The teacher reported it to the principal, Father Benny, who called the two students into his chamber and forced them to get their parents to the college. The principal warned them about coming to the college drunk and told them not to repeat it again. Embarrassed by the entire episode, one of the students jumped from the second floor corridor. As the security guards rushed to his help and alerted the college authorities, the other student too jumped from the third floor.
The two students were then taken to M.S. Ramaiah Hospital. The police said that the students, residents of B.K. Nagar in Yeshwanthpura, are from poor families.
College authorities told the police that they were regular students and did not skip classes. They also did not have any negative image among classmates. One of the students told the police that his parents asked him to do chores at home and he did not have enough time to study. That was the reason he took to drinking, he told the police.
