5 youths linked to ‘Target gang’ arrested in Zubair murder case

Mangaluru, Oct 11: the City police have arrested five persons in connection with the murder of Zubair at Mukkachery in Ullal on October 4.

The arrested are Suhail alias Abdul Rahman Suhail (23) of Mukkachery, Nijamuddin (23) of Ullal, Mohammed Mustafa (21) of Sankolige, Tajuddin alias Hassan Tajuddin (24) of Dharma Nagara in Ullal, and Asif alias Manda Asif (40) of Mukkachery.

The arrested were part of Target gang in Ullal in the past. Suhail is an accused in four other cases; Tajuddin is accused in a stone-pelting incident; Mustafa is involved in a robbery case registered against him in Mangaluru rural police station; Nizam is an accused in an assault case in Ullal police station and Asif is wanted in 10 cases – all in Ullal police station.

City Police Commissioner T R Suresh said four teams were constituted to crack the case. “There are two to three more persons involved in the case and will be arrested shortly.”

Suresh said Zubair had filed a plaint against the arrested in connection with a group clash in Ullal in 2016. He was murdered as revenge for the case.

Following the complaint, the police had arrested a few persons including Altaf, who was later booked under Goonda Act.

Zubair also had differences with the administrative committee of a mosque in Mukkachery and one of the arrested Asif was involved in the activities of the mosque. Zubair was hacked to death by four to five persons in front of Mukkachery mosque on October 4.

Udupi: Six junior artists from the prequel of Kannada blockbuster film ‘Kantara’ were injured, when the bus they were travelling in overturned in the district, police said on Monday.

According to police, the accident occurred near Jadkal on Sunday night when the mini-bus carrying the crew of the film overturned.

“The incident happened while they were returning to Kollur after completing the shoot at Mudoor in Jadkal. The mini-bus was carrying 20 junior artistes when it met with the accident,” a police officer said.

The injured were rushed to hospitals in Jadkal and Kundapur for treatment, they said.

The Kollur police are investigating the matter.

"The news making rounds is completely false. The Kantara: Chapter 1 team began shooting at 06:00 AM today, and everything is proceeding as normal. A minor accident occurred 20 kilometres away from the shooting location, involving a local bus carrying some members of the Kantara team. However, no injuries were reported," a source close to the production said.
