9 kg gold, cash stolen from jewellery showroom

Chennai, Sep 5: More than nine kg of jewellery was stolen from a showroom in Ayanavaram in the city on Saturday.

Goparam, proprietor of Balaji Gold House, opened the showroom on Saturday morning to find the gold and Rs. 2 lakh missing.

Based on a complaint, the Ayanavaram police filed a case and visited the showroom on Somasundaram Street.

A senior official of the Chennai City Police said that as per preliminary investigation, the suspect is likely to be G. Deepak, a native of Rajasthan, who was employed by Goparam.

The suspect took away the closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras fitted in the shop and the recording machine.

The family of Goparam had gone to the Jain temple in Ayanavaram on Saturday leaving Deepak in the house-cum-shop.
