Kasaragod, May 22: A nine-year-old boy was killed after he fell down from a heap of heavy logs at a timber mill at Vorkadi, near Manjeswaram.
The boy, Shravan, son of Narayana Achari of Karnataka, was found lying unconscious around 6 p.m. on Sunday. His family was residing at a rented quarters at Vorkadi. The boy was reportedly made to stand near the timber mill by his brother when he went to a nearby shop.
Though he was rushed to a private hospital in Mangaluru, he was pronounced dead around 2 a.m., Kumbala Police Circle Inspector K. Premsadan said.
Suspecting the possibility of foul play, a team of officials led by Superintendent of Police A. Srinivas reached the spot to carry out a probe, he said.
A detailed post-mortem examination held at the Pariyaram medical college revealed serious damage to his liver and blood clot around his abdomen suggesting that the injury might had been sustained when he skidded and fell over the logs, Mr. Premsadan said. The police have registered a case.
