Bengaluru, Nov 3: The former MLC Abdul Azeem quit the JD(S) in yet another indication of differences brewing among senior leaders in the party. He has decided to join the BJP with his supporters on November 5.
Mr. Azeem said there was no “internal democracy” in the party and his views were not taken seriously by the party leader and former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. He laid the blame squarely on Mr. Kumaraswamy for his decision to leave the party.
On Sunday morning, Mr. Azeem held a meeting with his supporters and well-wishers and they supported his decision to join the BJP, the former MLC said in a press release.
He decided to join the BJP to serve the State and the country in a fruitful way, he said.
Mr Azeem had criticised Mr. Kumaraswamy earlier when the latter allegedly sought money from an MLC aspirant in exchange for JD(S) support to contest in the last Legislative Council elections.
He had expressed his displeasure during the JD(S) legislators' recent tour of Sri Lanka.
On the alleged corruption in the JD(S), Mr. Azeem said that recently that “all of us of the party, from top to bottom, have become suspects in the eyes of the people and the very existence of the party is in danger”.
Another Muslim leader, B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan, who was once a confidante of Mr. Kumaraswamy, is also discontented with the family's style of functioning.
