Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 26: Cochlear’s Global Hearing Ambassador and International Cricket legend Brett Lee said 34 million children worldwide suffer from profound hearing loss.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), four in every 1,000 babies born in India suffer from severe to profound hearing disability, Lee said.
Lee was in Kerala to amplify conversations about Universal Newborn Hearing Screening (UNHS) across all hospitals in the state.
Pointing out that Kerala has more than 1.05 lakh people suffering from severe hearing impairment, he said UNHS must be made mandatory for birth certificate and also for entry to schools.
