Though there has been no official announcement of the same, the service provider stopping the bookings has fueled a sort of confusion among those who have been dependent on the carrier to reach Mangalore and fly back to Kuwait.
The carrier used to fly three flights per week between Mangalore-Kuwait-Kochin and in 2008 a direct flight was started between Mangalore and Kuwait.
Even the Air India Express employees say that while they have only heard rumours of winding up of Mangalore-Kuwait sector they are not in the position to confirm it.
Recalling the path that was treaded to get a direct flight between Kuwait and Mangalore, Gulf NRI Forum-Kuwait President P B Pinto says that it was a huge struggle that they had waged to get it sanctioned.
He says that if the flight is cancelled then not only the passengers but also the air cargo is going to be affected.
“Completion of aircraft leasing period, shortage of load etc are being cited as reasons for winding up of the service. The aviation departments of India and Kuwait have been contacted. We have met Minister for Petroleum M Veerappa Moily and have urged him to ensure that the services are not discontinued,” said Mr Pinto adding that they will stage a stir if this flight is discontinued.
According to Mangalore Airport Director G T Radhakrishna, though the matter has been brought to his notice by some passengers, Air India has so far not brought up the issue.
The passengers have been largely disappointed by the rumours and are only hoping that the flight which was a result of a long struggle is not discontinued.
