Srinagar, Jul 7: Three civilians, including a teenage girl, were killed when army allegedly opened fire on protesters in Redwani area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday.
A police official said army's patrolling party opened fire upon a group of youth after they pelted stones on them in Hawoora area of Redwani, Kulgam, 70 km from here. In the incident, six persons suffered injuries, he said.
The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, where three among them were declared brought as dead, the official said. The deceased have been identified as Shakir Khanday (22), Irshad Ahmad (20) and Andleeb (16).
Reports said clashes and protests were going on in the area against the killings. Senior police and army officials have rushed to the area. Internet services were suspended in Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama districts of south Kashmir after the killings.
After the Governor rule was imposed in the state on June 20, this is the first such incident in the Valley, where three civilian protesters were killed in security forces firing.
