Mangaluru, Aug 7: The arrest of two persons allegedly attempting dacoity has revealed their reported involvement in duping foreign nationals by sending them pictures of women.
A team of policemen from Mangaluru South Police, headed by the Sub-Inspector of Police, arrested Keerthan (26) of Farangipet and Kuldeep (32) of Yekkur for allegedly attempting dacoity.
The police have launched a search for three other persons who reportedly fled from the spot. The two were arrested near Marnamikatte Railway Level Crossing in the early hours of Saturday.
The police said that during interrogation the two accused reportedly told them that they were among the group of five who were sending pictures of women randomly to foreign nationals through mail and WhatsApp. They offered services of each of these women for a payment of $ 300.
Whosoever responded to their mail or communication were asked to send money online to their account. Upon receiving the payment, the accused used to block the incoming calls of these foreign nationals.
The police said that the accused used pictures of women available on the Internet for the purpose. They were involved in duping foreign nationals for over 18 months.
The police said that they have already registered a case under Sections 399 (preparation to commit dacoity) and 402 (assembling to commit dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code. They will now investigate the cheating case too.
