Bangalore, Dec 3: Complying with the Supreme Court directive, Karnataka government today shifted jailed Kerala-based PDP leader Abdul Nasser Ma'adani, a key accused in the 2008 Bangalore serial blasts case, to a private hospital here for treatment.

The apex court on November 18 directed the Karnataka government to shift Ma'adani to Manipal Hospital, subject to the hospital agreeing to take him as a patient for treatment.

Ever since his arrest in August 2010 in connection w

ith the Bangalore bomb blast case, the People's Democratic Party leader has repeatedly knocked at the doors of the court for either bail or hospitalisation citing his multiple ailments, with several Kerala leaders also making a plea for him.

"Ma'adani was today admitted to the hospital by Karnataka government, around 11.30 AM for medical evaluation," said Manipal Hospital Medical Director & Chairman, Medical Advisory Board, Dr H Sudarshan Ballal.

He said Ma'adani was suffering from diabetes and many other associated problems and a panel of experts would examine him.

"Based on the evaluation, we will be treating him. He is currently stable. His security is taken care of by the Government of Karnataka," he added.

Ma'adani is among the 31 persons chargesheeted for the 2008 Bangalore blasts, which killed one person and injured 20 others, on charges of conspiracy and sheltering some of the key accused.

He was also named in the 1998 Coimbatore bombings ahead of BJP veteran L K Advani's meeting that killed 58 persons and over 200 injured but was acquitted by the court.

Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao reminded that V D Savarkar was not against cow slaughter as he himself was non-veg eater, PTI reported on Thursday.

"As a Brahmin he was eating meat, and he was openly propagating eating meat," said the minister at an event in Bengaluru.

Reacting to Gundu Rao's claim, BJP MP Anurag Thakur called Congress a "factory of lies" as he warned that India won't tolerate any disrespect towards Savarkar.

"By disrespecting Veer Savarkar they have shown that they don't respect freedom fighters. During the Congress government, Sardar Bhagat Singh was termed a separatist in textbooks...By making those who want to break the nation join the congress party, Rahul Gandhi is taking forward the ideology of 'tukde tukde' and he is a 'modern Jinnah' who speaks ill of the country abroad...," he said.

Meanwhile, a court in Maharashtra's Nashik district summoned Congress MP Rahul Gandhi earlier this week in a defamation case filed against him for his alleged objectionable remarks against the Hindutva ideologue.

The complainant, who is the director of an NGO, claimed he watched a press conference addressed by Gandhi in Hingoli and also a speech made by the Congress leader in November 2022.

He alleged that Gandhi, on the two occasions, by his words and visual representations knowingly harmed the reputation of Veer Savarkar and also tried to defame the latter's image in the society.

According to the complainant, Gandhi said "Savarkar is BJP and RSS jin" which was defamatory in nature.
