Bantwal, Feb 19: A college student was kidnapped, assaulted and left in an unconscious state by a group of unidentified persons at the railway station in B C Road on Tuesday night.
The victim has been identified as Mohammed Basha alias Basith (19), resident of Mularapatna village in Bantwal taluk.
The incident is said to have occurred at around 8.45 p.m. and came to light on Wednesday morning.
He was allegedly kidnapped at Bhandaribettu near B C Road, while he was on his way to B C Road on a motorcycle to accompany his friend Rizwan who works at a jewellery store in Farangipet.
According to Basith, he was waylaid by three unidentified persons who arrived in a Maruti Omni, blinded him with chilli powder and threw him on the ground. He was then kicked around by the three men who also stamped him on his face.
Basith regained consciousness the next morning and found himself at the railway station having been blindfolded. He is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Thumbay.
It is learnt that Basith is a student of Mahaveer College in Moodbidri pursuing a diploma course.
Following the incident, Basith told police that the miscreants arrived in a white Omni car and snatched away his mobile phone and Rs 1000 he was carrying.
Frantic search to locate Basith
Family members of Basith began searching for him once they realised that he had neither reached B C Road nor arrived home. They desperately began trying to connect to his mobile number, which was ringing till 10.30 p.m. on Tuesday, after which it was turned off.
After a complaint was filed at Bantwal police station at 11 p.m., a search for Basith began which led to the discovery of his motorcycle and mobile cover at Bhandaribettu.
