Mangaluru, Feb 8: Call for the communal harmony, cultural programmes and award ceremony marked the beginning of the three-day Beary Mela-2019 being hosted by the Bearys Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Town Hall in the city.
Formally inaugurating the event on Friday evening by watering a sapling, MB Patil, Home Minister of Karnataka hailed the contributions of Beary community towards the nation building and urged the people of all communities to be united shunning communalism.
“Ours is a country of unity in diversity. Here followers of various religions including Hinduism, Islam and Christianity live together. We should remain united forever without falling prey to the conspiracies of the divisive forces,” he said.
He exhorted on the people to strive hard to build a harmonious Mangaluru, a harmonious Karnataka and a harmonious India, which is known for its culture, tradition and communal amity.
The minister said that even though the Bearys were lagging behind in all sectors for a long time, the community has now achieved remarkable progress including in educational and sectors thanks to the hard work and dedication of its members.
On the same occasion, U T Khader, Minister for Urban Development and Dakshina Kannada district in-charge released the souvenir of the BCCI.
Y Abdulla Kunhi, Chancellor of Yenepoya University inaugurated the exhibition of stalls on the premises of the hall put up to promote the business and employment opportunities.
SM Rasheed Haji, president of BCCI, presided over the inaugural session. B M Farookh, MLC, Bhaskar Moily, Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation, B Ramanath Rai, former Minister, BA Moideen Bava, former MLA, U Kanachur Monu, president of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Wakf Advisory Committee, Karambar Muhammad, president of Beary Sahitya Academy, P B Abdul Hameed, president of KCCI president, SM Basheer, BCCI UAE unit president, Muhammad Ali Uchil, BWF Abu Dhabi president were present among others.
