Managluru, Feb 12: The ethics and unique concepts being followed by the Bearys Group in the construction industry will go a long way in contributing to the development of the state in particular and the country in general; and are a source of inspiration for others, said Dr Subhash Chandra Khuntia, Chief Secretary, Karnataka government.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a ceremony to unveil the specialities of Bearys Global Research Triangle (BGRT) and felicitate various experts from around the country in the construction industry, at the BGRT in Whitefield here on Saturday.

“The projects taken up by the Bearys Group are known for innovative features. I have witnessed a number of projects of this Group that are eco-friendly and mostly use naturally available materials. They are inspired by nature’’ Dr. Khuntia said.

“Unbridled industrialization over the decades has resulted in an unwelcome development, called global warming. At this juncture, to avoid enormous stress on the environment, the concept of green buildings holds the key,’’ he said.

Praising the design of the BGRT, Dr Khuntia said that 84 percent of the building space was usable and water consumption cut by 74 percent, besides saving 54 percent of power.

“Though our country is lagging behind in Research and Development (R and D) sector with less than 1 percent of investment, which makes us dependent on other countries, the Bearys Group has contributed immensely to the sector,’’ he added.

Mahendraraj, Chief Structural Consultant of Mahendraraj Consultant, New Delhi, who was present on the occasion, praised the work ethics of Syed Muhammed Beary, Chairman of the Bearys Group.

“He is a man of calibre with kind heart, who treats everyone with respect. His mission is not to amass wealth, but to contribute to the field of Research and Development in the country,’’ he said.

In his introductory address, Syed Muhammed Beary, Chairman of the Beary’s Group, said that the group had taken up the BGRT, Rs 180 crore project, with just Rs 2-3 crore in hand. The Group had already conducted a survey in Bangalore and on the basis of the result it was decided to take up the projects with emphasis on research and development, he added.

The Karnataka government has announced that Nandini milk will become ₹4 costlier per litre starting April 1, 2025. This is the second price hike this year.

The decision was made during a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Karnataka Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna and Animal Husbandry Minister K Venkatesh said the increase is meant to support dairy farmers by covering the rising costs of producing and processing milk.

Officials also said that:

>> The extra money from the price hike will go directly to the milk producers.

>> The earlier ₹2 price hike (announced on June 26, 2024) will be withdrawn.

>> The new price hike of ₹4 will apply to both 500 ml and 1-litre packets.

Udupi, Mar 18: In response to concerns over the potential cancellation of the Mangaluru-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express due to low passenger occupancy, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary has proposed extending the service to Mumbai instead of discontinuing it.

MP Poojary met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and urged him to consider the extension, highlighting the benefits it would bring to commuters and the economy. The minister promptly directed railway officials to ensure the train service is not discontinued and to explore the feasibility of extending it to Mumbai.

A detailed report on the economic significance of Mangaluru and Udupi was also presented, stressing the necessity of the train's extension. Additionally, a request was made to introduce a sleeper Vande Bharat train between Mangaluru and Mumbai in the future.

Expressing gratitude to the minister for his prompt attention and assurance of support, MP Poojary welcomed the positive response and reiterated his commitment to improving railway connectivity in the region.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Assembly on Friday passed Bills doubling the salaries of the chief minister, ministers, and legislators, adding an annual burden of ₹62 crore on the exchequer.

The CM's monthly salary will increase from ₹75,000 to ₹1.5 lakh, while ministers will see a 108% hike, from ₹60,000 to ₹1.25 lakh. MLAs and MLCs will get ₹80,000 per month, up from ₹40,000, and their pension will rise from ₹50,000 to ₹75,000.

The Karnataka Ministers Salaries and Allowances (Amendment) Bill and the Karnataka Legislature Salaries, Pensions and Allowances (Amendment) Bill were passed without debate, as the Opposition BJP protested in the well of the House.

The Bills cited the rising cost of living as justification for the hike. The Assembly Speaker and Legislative Council chairperson will now receive ₹1.25 lakh per month, up from ₹75,000.
