Bengaluru, Apr 5: At least two persons were killed and several others were injured after an under-construction car parking structure collapsed in Karnataka’s capital.
The incident took place at 4: 40 am in Apmc yard, Yeshwantpur, which lies in the northwestern part of Bengaluru city. Police said that the workers were sleeping at second floor of the building when the tragedy occurred.
“Around 70 workers were working at the site. While 12 of them lived in the building premises itself, others returned to their homes. Out of 12 workers sleeping in the building, eight sustained injuries, two died and two escaped unhurt,” police said.
The deceased have been identified as Rahul Kumar from West Bengal and Rajesh from Bihar. Rescues operations have been called off at the spot.
Revanna, Assistant commissioner-labour Department, told media persons that they had filed case against the contractor of the building in the month of January this year for not obtaining license to construct the building.
“We had issues at least five notices, asking the contractor to appear before the commission. The notices went unanswered and we had approached the court seeking a stay on the construction work," he said.
