A teenager has lost three fingers of his hand when his mobile phone exploded while he was on a video call as the phone was charging in Bengaluru.
The 18-year-old was rushed to Vydehi Hospital for emergency care but the doctors could not save three fingers of his left hand.
The incident happened a few days ago, when the victim, a daily wage worker at a construction site in Whitefield was on a video call on his Jio phone while having lunch with his co-workers. The phone was being charged and suddenly his friends were shocked to see a blast.
When they realized it was the phone, they saw that the victim was screaming with fright and pain. His middle finger and his ring finger had been severed from his hand and blood had splattered all around.
The victim’s colleagues rushed him to the nearby Vydehi Hospital at 4 pm and he was taken immediately into the emergency ward. The doctors said that they were in shock too since this was the first case of a phone blast in the city, leading to such severe injuries.
The victim was shifted to the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department as his hand needed surgery. Though he had lost a lot of blood, they had tried to stem further loss. The surgery was performed by Dr Apoorva SS, Dr Chaithanya and Dr Vashisht Dikshit from the Department of Plastic Surgery, Vydehi Hospital, with just 100 ml blood loss.
