Megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s attempt to crack a joke after he lost the top spot of the most followed actor in India on Twitter to Shah Rukh Khan, sparked a row as many Twitterati smelt a bit jealous in the Shahenshah’s dialog delivery.
The fan following of Big B has quickly dropped from 33 million to 32.9 million on Twitter after the social media giant acted against fake accounts. As a result the King Khan of Bollywood, currently with 3,29,44,338 followers, ranked number one on the microblogging site.
The 75-year-old actor tweeted: "T 2599 - TWITTER ..!!! you reduced my number of followers .. !!??HAHAHAHAHAHAHA .. !! that's a joke .. time to get off from you .. thank you for the ride .. .. there are many 'other' fish in the sea - and a lot more exciting. (sic)"
Though the Shahenshah himself claimed that it was a joke, many Twitterati tried to read between the lines. A verified Twitter user reacted to Bachchan: “More than followers, you lost respect”.
On the other hand Big B’s fans too took the tweet seriously and his number of followers increased overnight. He is still ahead of superstars Salman Khan (30.7 million), Aamir Khan (22.8 million), Priyanka Chopra (21.6 million) and Deepika Padukone (23 million) on the micro-blogging website.
