Mysuru, Nov 22: Members of the BJP’s farmer wing, Raitha Morcha staged a protest near Gandhi Circle on Wednesday to condemn remarks made by chief minister HD Kumaraswamy at the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi recently.
“Kumaraswamy rode to power on the back of support from the farmers. Now, he is calling them ‘goondas’ and has insulted a woman farmer who was demanding justice. Kumaraswamy has insulted the entire farming community in the state,” said the protesters.
The morcha’s rural president M Shivanna said that Kumaraswamy had promised to implement a loan waiver within 24 hours of coming to power. “But, he has failed to fulfill his promise even six months after coming to power. The CM’s brother HD Revanna is saying that they do not have a note-printing machine to pay dues to sugarcane cultivators. This state government has failed to protect the interests of the farmers. Cases of farmer suicides are still on the rise in Karnataka. The government has failed to resolve problems of farmers,” said Shivanna.
Pointing to some of the problems dogging ryots in the state, Shivanna said that onion rates were sliding, while not one paddy procurement centre had been opened in the state. “Kumaraswamy should stop shedding crocodile tears, and take up initiatives to resolve farmers’ woes,” he added.
