Mangaluru, Sept 23: The city police have arrested a Maharashtra based woman in connection with the seizure of a ‘suspicious’ power bank at Mangaluru International Airport earlier this week.
Sleuths of Managluru North Police Station arrested Parvati Bayi (50) on charge of selling duplicate power bank that had triggered bomb scare at the Airport on September 19.
Police sources said that she has been procuring duplicate power banks from Maharashtra and selling the same on footpaths in Mangaluru.
On September 19, Dubai bound passenger via Kempegowda International Airport, identified as Mohammed Mansoor from Kannur in the city outskirts, was offloaded at the Airport after airlines security check came across a suspicious device in his checked in baggage.
The local bomb disposal squad was also called in to check out the same as a precaution on that day. The officials soon realized that the suspicious device was a duplicate power bank. However, a section of media had portrayed the passenger as a terrorist and claimed that he was carrying a cell phone bomb.
The city police continued the investigation and zeroed in on the woman. In fact, the passenger had bought the power bank from the woman, sources said.
