Thousands participate in Vairamudi festival

Mandya,Mar 18: Thousands of devotees witnessed the Vairamudi festival at the temple town Melkote, about 50 km from here, amid chanting of Vedic hymns, lord Cheluvanarayanaswamy, decked with the Vairamudi (price less diamond crown), was taken in a procession at the auspicious hour around the temple town.

Fondly called Chellapillai (beloved son), lord Cheluvanarayanaswamy, the presiding deity of Melkote, with his consorts gave Darshan to the anxiously waiting devotees. The procession of the presiding deity began Sunday night and ended in the early morning on Monday with all religious fervour.

The idols of goddesses Sridevi and Bhudevi Kalyananayaki were also taken out in the procession. Dozens of priests performed the rituals while Vedic hymns were chanted.
