Brothers climb the ladder of success together

Mangalore: In the words of Vince Lombardi, “Leaders aren't born they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. And that's the price we'll have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal.” The saying goes really well with these siblings who have achieved success through their hard work!

The rural youth making up to the PhD is a marvel in itself. But have you wondered what a proud feeling that is for this elderly couple, whose both the sons received doctoral degrees sharing the same stage on the same day?

Tears roll down the cheeks of S Kunhipa Haji and Havva Bi couple, residents of Seranthi Mata near Vittla in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, when they witnessed the rare scene during the recently held 32nd convocation of Mangalore University.

Their elder son Ismaeel, who is currently working as an assistant professor of Physics at Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) in Manipal, obtained PhD for his research thesis, Micro Spectral Studies on Electron Irradiated Polymers. He was guide by Dr V Ravindrachar of Physics Department.

Younger son Shamsuddin, the assistant professor and coordinator of MSc in Chemistry in the Alvas College, Moodbidri, also received PhD on the same occasion for his research thesis, Synthesis and Structural Studies of some New Nitrogen Containing Heterocyclic Compounds.  He was guided by Dr. B. Narayan.

Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University Dr TC Shivashankara Murthy formally handed over the doctorate certificates to the proud brothers in the presence of In the presence of the ISRO chairman Dr. Radhakrishnan.

The duo completed their higher primary, high school and pre university education in Vittla town. Both studied BSc at St. Philomena College, Puttur. They were the distinction holders throughout their education period and proved that the hard work is fruitful.

After degree, elder brother, Ismail took up Physics and the younger brother, Shamsuddhin took up Chemistry in Mangalore University.

As a research scholar Ismaeel has flown to Singapore and visited several prominent universities and research centers across India for paper presentations.

Shamsuddin's scholarly research papers, published in many international journals, have been widely appreciated by scholars. He has been appointed as the editor in chief of Journal of Single molecule Research, of Sciknow Publications Ltd. of United States of America.

The hard work of two brothers from a middle class Muslim family of Dakshina Kannada has set an example for all the youth of the nation.
