Mangaluru, May 16: The death of an elderly patient led to chaos at a private hospital in Deralakatte on the outskirts of the city, as the family members and relatives of the deceased not only ransacked the premises and attacked the hospital staff but also briefly abducted a senior surgeon in the wee hours of Tuesday.
According to sources, 65-year-old Bavu, a resident of Kinya Manjanady area, was admitted to hospital yesterday, as he was suffering from the severe leg pain. He breathed his last at 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday. It is learnt that he was also suffering from diabetes, heart ailments and other age related diseases.

Their agitation was so fierce that all the staff on duty at the Yenepoya Medical College Hospital were frightened and some vacated the place after a nurse was allegedly manhandled by the unruly mob.
A group of four to five men dragged Dr Abijit Shetty, a senior surgeon, from the fourth floor to the ground floor and then forced him to get into an Ace tempo that was parked in front of the hospital building. When the vehicle reached the Netravati bridge near Thokkottu, a team of police began to chase it based on the information given by the hospital.
Sensing trouble, the alleged abductors drove the vehicle towards Ullal police station. However, the police intercepted the vehicle on the road and rescued the doctor. Two persons on board the tempo managed to flee while the police took three others into custody.
