Ganapathi was working with the IGP's office since about four months. Before hanging himself in a hotel room, the officer had told a local television channel that he was being harassed by Minister K.J. George and IPS officers A.M. Prasad and Pranab Mohanty. The government had ordered investigation into the suicide following State-wide protests.

Mr. Reddy told reporters that the agency took up the investigation on Friday and Inspector General of Police (CID) Hemanth Nimbalkar had visited Kodagu district on Friday and Saturday. Since Ganapathi was working and staying in Mangaluru, the team has come to gather more information, he said.

IGP (Western Range) Arun Chakravarthy said that the team conducted the spot inspection of Ganapathi's office, collected several records and also his service records.

In Kodagu

On the other hand, another CID team led by IGP Hemanth Nimbalkar visited at Ganapathi's house in Rangasamudra in Kodagu.

They spoke to Ganapathi's wife Pavana, sons Nehal and Sahil, and brothers Thammaiah and Machaiah. The team has also collected separate opinions from Ganapathi's wife and sons. Speaking to the media, Nimbalkar said: “As the investigation is under progress, we cannot divulge details.”

In Madikeri, the CID?officials visited the office of the local channel which aired Ganapathi's interview, and spoke to auto driver Dinesh and the staff of Vinayaka Lodge where the DySP committed suicide.

Machaiah said that the case should be handed over to the CBI. “The handing over the case to the CBI will give justice to my brother and peace to his soul,” he told the media.

Machaiah said the state government has handed over the case to the CID. “We do not have any suspicion on the probe by the CID. As there is a possibility of twisting the case, we want the case to be probed by the CBI,” he said. “I accompanied police personnel to the room where my brother committed suicide. There was no death note. There were two pen drives,” Machaiah added.

On the other hand, Ganapathi's father Kushalappa has clarified that he did not submit any written complaint. “During the post mortem of my son, the police had asked my signature. I have not read the copy. In fact my other son Thammaiah only helped Ganapathi to get transfer to Mangaluru. As he was in Mangaluru, he did not discuss any family issues with me. He had come home two months ago,” he added.

A native of Rangasamudra near Kushalnagar, Ganapathi was a former employee of BEML and joined the police force as a sub-inspector in 1994. He first served at Aldur and Sakarayapatna (both in Chikkamagaluru). His other postings were, Mangaluru, Puttur, Ullal and CID office in?Bengaluru. He was again posted to Ullal, Bantwal, Kadri (in Mangaluru), Lashkar (Mysuru), DIG office (in Bengaluru), Yeshwantpur, Madiwala, IG?office (in Bengaluru), Bengaluru Rural and finally IGP?(Western Range) office in Mangaluru after he was promoted as DySP. Udupi, Nov 7: In a tragic turn of events, a young woman, Prasanna, aged 29, allegedly died by suicide on Wednesday, struggling to cope with the demands of work and motherhood after the birth of her daughter, according to police reports.

Prasanna had married on December 2, 2022, and was the mother of a 10-month-old baby girl. Her husband works in Bengaluru, while she lived with her in-laws, who, according to her family, treated her kindly.

In a complaint, Prasanna's mother revealed that her daughter often called her, expressing deep concerns over her readiness for motherhood. Despite receiving supportive care from her family, Prasanna felt unprepared and overwhelmed by the balance of work and home life that early motherhood required.

Her family shared that she had been undergoing treatment, but between 10 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, she allegedly took her own life at her husband’s residence. The Karkala Rural Police Station has registered a case and is conducting further investigations.

Mangaluru: A heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded in the quiet Bellayuru village on the outskirts of Mangaluru as a man’s life ended on a railway track following an apparent double murder. Authorities from the Mulki police station identified the man as Karthik Bhat, 32, whose lifeless body was discovered on the tracks with his head positioned on the rail, indicating a tragic suicide.

Nearby, police recovered keys to a scooter and a house, which eventually led them to uncover a series of chilling events. Following the trail, officers located Bhat’s scooter parked near Mahammayi Temple. Inside the vehicle, they found documents confirming his identity, including an RC, insurance papers, and his driving license.

Their search continued to Bhat's home in Pakshikere, Kemral village, where they discovered a locked room. With the keys retrieved from the tracks, police unlocked the door, only to be confronted by a horrifying sight. The bodies of Priyanka (28) and her young son Hriday (4) lay in a pool of blood, pointing to a brutal murder that occurred just hours before Bhat’s suicide.

Initial investigations suggest Bhat, beleaguered by ongoing family disputes, committed the murders of his wife and son on the evening of November 8 before tragically ending his own life. A death note found in his diary hinted at his mental state and tragic intentions.

Priyanka’s family, residing in Shivamogga, was informed of the incident. The couple, married for six years, now leaves behind grieving relatives and unanswered questions. Police have initiated formal proceedings, collecting statements from family members as they continue their investigation into the tragic sequence of events.

Bengaluru, Nov 1: Hardline BJP leader and Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to "Nationalise Waqf Assets", alleging Waqf board of "blatant violation" in claiming of the lands of Farmers, temples and mutts.

Taking to his social media, Basanagouda Patil Yatnal posted on X, saying "I have written a letter to the hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji to Nationalize the Waqf Assets in view of the arbitrary, blatant violation in claiming of the lands of Farmers, Landowners, Temples, Trusts and Mutts across the country by the Waqf board. All the citizens of the country have equal rights on the land. If the motive of Waqf is welfare and social service, this has to be done without bias and religious discrimination as India is a secular nation."

Additionally, Vijayapura MLA also attached the letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his post.

Earlier, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya had accused the Waqf Board of encroaching on thousands of acres of farmers' lands with the support of the Karnataka government.

Surya stated, "There have been multiple press conferences and videos in the public domain where the Minister himself has admitted that these Waqf adalats are being conducted under the Chief Minister's instructions. This is a grave matter, where thousands of acres of farmers' lands are being encroached upon by the Waqf Board with the active support and collusion of the State Government."

He mentioned that, in recent days, farmers from various districts across Karnataka have reported that, without prior notice, ownership of their lands has been abruptly transferred to the Waqf Board.

Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge criticised BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, claiming he has done nothing for Bengaluru. Kharge's remarks came in response to the BJP MP's accusations regarding Waqf Board land encroachment.

The Congress leader assured that the Karnataka government is committed to protecting farmers' properties.

Kharge further questioned the BJP's record on protecting temples during its previous government, stating that the Karnataka government is committed to safeguarding temples and common people's properties.
