Lucknow, Aug 7: Forty-five-year-old Motilal Pal, a constable with Uttar Pradesh police, wanted his only son to study Mathematics as a subject in the next class perhaps because he wished to see him become an engineer.
The son Raja Pal alias Prince, however, detested Maths and he had also been scolded and sometimes beaten by his father for scoring poorly in the subject.
Motilal, however, had never imagined that his son could kill him for his insistence.
16-year old Prince on Saturday night allegedly shot his fatherwhile the latter was asleep at his residence at Dhoomanganj locality in the state's Allahabad town, about 200 kilometres from here.
The minor, according to the family members, not only killed his father but also held his mother and sister hostage at gun point for over 30 hours.
The incident came to light on Sunday night, when a relative of the victim visited the family and found them held hostage, reports said.The culprit has been arrested, police said.
Police sources said that Motilal, who was posted at Bhadohi district, had come home on Saturday. He scolded Prince after he came to know that his son had done poorly in Maths in the school examination. Motilal allegedly beat his son and asked him to focus on the subject as he has to take it in the next class also.
Seething with rage, Prince, who had a country made pistol,allegedly shot his father in the head while he was asleep on Saturday night. Motilal died on the spot.
Prince also held his mother and sister hostage, when the two rushed in after hearing the sound of gunfire.
Police said that they were investigating if the mother and sister too had a role in hiding the incident for over 30 hours. ''We are investigating the incident...Prince has been arrested,'' said a senior police official in Allahabad.
