Gurugram, Jan 21: In a shocking incident, a woman principal of a private school was shot dead by a Class XII student inside her office in Haryana’s Yamuna Nagar on Saturday.
The boy was caught by the public as he tried to escape and was handed over to the police. The student of Swami Vivekanand Public School walked into the office of principal Ritu Chhabra around 11.30 a.m. and fired four shots from the licensed .32 bore revolver of his financier father.
“Three bullets hit the principal. One hit her in the face and another in the arm. The third bullet that took her life hit her in the chest. She succumbed to her injuries in hospital,” Superintendent of Police, Yamuna Nagar, Rajesh Kalia said.
The boy, according to the police, is over 18.
“As he was trying to run away, the staff raised an alarm and one of the passers-by on the road outside the school hit him with a rod on the head. He was then handed over to the police,” said Mr. Kalia.
Preliminary investigation suggested that the accused, a student of Commerce stream, bore a grudge against Ms. Chhabra for scolding him often. Ms. Chhabra, who also taught Economics, had reportedly punished him a week ago for not completing his work.
The boy’s father was also arrested under the Arms Act. A case of murder has been registered against the boy at Yamuna Nagar City police station.
Mr. Kalia ruled out the involvement of more persons in the crime.
