Limited usage of LPG has swept people off their feet. What worries everyone is how are they to manage with the limited LPG cylinders subsidized by the government. Paying for the extra cylinders will definitely make a hole in their pockets. The solution to this is to save on LPG as much as possible, so that we limit our usage to a few cylinders. Incorporate these tips in your daily routine and it will work wonders for you.

Say yes to wide bottom vessels

Always use a vessel that completely covers the burner. Using a small vessel on a wide burner leads to wastage of gas due to over-lapping flame.

De-freeze that fish curry

Defreeze frozen food completely. The heat that is needed to bring food down to normal temperature means wastage of gas.

Do not make vegetables tasteless

Do not overcook vegetables. Undone or semi-cooked vegetables are nutritious. Partially cooked leafy vegetables just need the heat in the covered vessel to be completely cooked.

Keep that oil and mustard handy

Keep all the ingredients at hand before cooking. Do not turn on the burner and go looking for oil or pour oil and then wait to cut your onions and chilies.

Don’t provoke your husband to eat out

Do not overcook food. Do not talk on phone or to your neighbor while something is being cooked on the gas and more-over, burnt food becomes inedible.

Cover your food

Close the vessel with a lid so that the energy is used completely. This will lead to huge savings.

Boiling water again and again is OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)

If you use boiled water throughout the day while cooking, make sure you don’t boil water every time you need a cup. Boil sufficient hot water once during the day and store it in a thermos flask.

Cockroaches are not to be seen near your gas

See to it that there are no leaks. Hose and regulator should be checked and changed as instructed and burner cleaned regularly. Leaks lead to wastage of gas.

Honor pressure cookers

Pressure cook ingredients that need a lot of time for cooking. This way you will save time and energy as well.

Save water as well

Do not use excess water while cooking. Evaporating excess water means more usage of gas.

High flame can burn your fingers

Once your vessel is heated up put the burner on low flame. Amount of heat required to cook is less than we estimate and cooking on low flame has more nutritional value.

Keep them dry when you fry

Wash vessels and see that you wipe them before placing on the burner. Excess water that you use to dry up on the stove consumes unnecessary gas.

These are some of the useful suggestions to minimize the wastage of gas. Hope you follow them so that you save on your monthly budget as well.
