Mangaluru, Feb 6: BA Vivek Rai, Kannada thinker and former vice chancellor of Hampi Kannada university on Saturday released first Beary calendar published by the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy.
Speaking on the occasion Mr Rai called the calendar a symbol of communal harmony as it gives information above religious and cultural festivals of all religions and communities in coastal Karnataka.
On the same occasion BM Haneef, sub editor, Sudha Kannada weekly, released the ‘Belkiri’ special edition published by the Academy.
Prof AV Navada, said that since 1854 Basel Mission had published calendars for 30 years upholding secular values. They never confined to Christians. Similarly, the Beary calendar can be accepted by all, he said.
BA Mohammed Haneef, president of the Academy presided over the meeting. Writer UP Upadhyaya, DK district Wakf officer Aboobakar, editor of Beary-Kannada-English dictionary BM Ichlangodu were present among others.
Umarabba, registrar of the Academy welcomed. ME Mohammed Firdous proposed vote of thanks and Usuf Waktar compered the programme.
