Buoyed by the victory of some of its candidates in 2013 civic polls and recent gram panchayat polls across Karnataka, the Muslim dominant party had contested for 18 seats out of 198 wards.

Among 18 candidates, Mujahid Pasha, who had contested in Siddapura Ward has registered a victory.

However, SDPI has lost Padarayanapura Ward, wherein its female candidate Prof Nazni Begum had defeated JDS candidate with a clear margin of 2500 votes in 2010.

Dr Mahboob Shareef Awad, Karnataka state present of SDPI, told Coastaldigest.com that in a few other seats his party candidates have lost to other candidates with a minor margin.

Expressing contentment over SDPI’s overall performance in its second attempt in the BBMP, he said that workers' hard work yielded positive result.

“In two wards our candidates lost to Congress thanks to the presence of Muslim candidates from Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen of Asaduddin Owaisi,” he said.

He also made a veiled remark against Mr Owaisi, saying that a few youth in Muslim community were misguided by social media campaign launched by Hyderabad based party.

“Unlike them, we don’t provoke anyone through speeches. Our agenda is development,” he said.

Bengaluru: The Enforcement Directorate on Monday undertook fresh searches in connection with the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) linked money laundering case in which it has booked Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, official sources said.

About seven-eight premises in Bengaluru and Mysuru are being covered, the sources said.

The federal agency had conducted the first round of raids in this case on October 18 when it searched the MUDA office in Mysuru and some other locations.

It also questioned some lower-rank officials of the MUDA at its Bengaluru zonal office last week.

The ED has filed a enforcement case information report (ECIR) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to book the CM and others taking cognisance of a Lokayukta FIR.

Siddaramaiah is facing Lokayukta and ED probes into alleged irregularities in the allotment of 14 sites to his wife by the MUDA.

Siddaramaiah's wife Parvathi B M, brother-in-law Mallikarjuna Swamy, Devaraju -- from whom Mallikarjuna Swamy purchased land and gifted it to Parvathi -- and others are named as other accused in the case by the two probe agencies.

Parvathi was recently questioned by the Lokayukta.

Udupi, Oct 26: In a heartbreaking incident in Beejadi village near Kundapur in Udupi district, two young men were swept away by a powerful wave while swimming in the sea on Saturday morning.

Santosh, 21, was pulled from the water by local fishermen and residents, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. Ajay, who was also caught in the wave, remains missing, according to Kundapur police.

The duo, along with friends Shreyas and Mokshith, had been staying at the Sahana Sun Caste Resort to attend a wedding. Around 9:30 a.m., a large wave suddenly engulfed them, sweeping Ajay and Santosh into deeper waters.

Police reported that Ajay hailed from Hangalli village near Kundapur, while Santosh was from Dasarahalli near Bengaluru. Expert divers have been dispatched to the scene in hopes of locating Ajay’s body.
