Bengaluru, May 9: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functionary Arun Kumar has been appointed as the organising general secretary for the Karnataka unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The decision to appoint him was taken by the RSS.
Post vacant
The post had been lying vacant for over a year after the elevation of the then organising general secretary Santosh, who was made national joint organising secretary and given the higher-level responsibility of monitoring the party organisation in six States, including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.
Interestingly, the followers of BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa were strongly rooting for another RSS functionary, Ravi Kumar, for the post.
However, the RSS top leaders are said to have favoured Mr. Arun's candidature. This is being seen as a message that the RSS too is trying to have checks and balances with respect to Mr. Yeddyurappa's leadership. The BJP central leadership is learnt to have decided to monitor major decisions to be taken by Mr. Yeddyurappa on organisational matters, in a bid to prevent groupism.
The BJP organising general secretaries are chosen by the RSS from its cadre and deputed to the party organisation.
