Mangaluru, Jul 26: Continuing his tirade against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Congress veteran B Janardhana Poojary on Tuesday predicted that the former would be replaced by better leaders like Oscar Fernandes and Mallikarjun Kharge.

The former union minister's warning comes in the wake of ongoing indefinite strike by employees of four road transport corporations in the state seeking fulfilment of various demands, prominent among them being a 35 per cent wage hike, while the government has offered a 10 per cent increase.

Addressing media persons in Mangaluru press club, Mr Poojary said that the CM should have solved the issue by holding negotiations with the striking road transport corporation (RTC) workers to prevent inconvenience to general public and loss to the government.

He said the Karnataka in the past had given two wonderful' Union Ministers for Labour — Oscar Fernandes and M. Mallikarjuna Kharge. Praising Mr. Fernandes for cleverly averting a national trade union strike, Mr. Poojary said Mr. Siddaramaiah should have consulted these leaders to address the RTC strike.

Lashing out at Siddaramaiah, Poojary said that the CM has failed utterly in solving the issue of KSRTC - BMTC employees's strike in the state. Holding Siddaramaiah responsible for the ongoing crisis related to protest by KSRTC - BMTC employees, Poojary said the CM is turning blind eyes to genuine demands of employees.

"Siddaramaiah has not taken the issue seriously even when thousands of workers are on indefinite strike. It is a huge loss to the state exchequer and people. Moreover, people of the state and media have been attacking the Congress and its government in the state. However, the CM is acting blind though he has eyes and remains mute even when he has tongue. People have chosen Congress in the state expecting better governance in the state. However, people are now desperate and have lost confidence in Siddaramaiah. He (Siddaramaiah) does not listen to anybody and he has no concern towards people," Poojary said.

Mr Poojary went on to claim that the party high command would soon replace Siddaramaiah with any one of the senior Congress leaders like Oscar Fernandes, Mallikarjun Kharge, Motamma or G Parameshwara if the former fails to solve the issue.

Whether poojary is in the ruling party or opposition? His silence on attacks on dalith and the failure of Modi Govt in all respect is a big surprise. I am confused whether he is Congress or congRSS

Mangaluru, May 6: A five-year-old girl from Arendur village of Siddapura taluk of Uttara Kannada district died of Kyasanur Forest Disease (monkey fever) recently.

As her health deteriorated, she was admitted to the KMC Hospital in Mangaluru, where she failed to respond to the treatment and died on Friday night.

It is learned that the KFD is slowly spreading to the newer areas of coastal and malnad areas of Karnataka

According to officials, KFD spreads due to bites of ticks that generally survive on monkeys. This tick bites humans which causes the infection. Humans also contract the disease by coming in contact with cattle bitten by ticks.

Udupi: Udupi became the second city on the Karnataka coast after Mangaluru to launch water rationing, a senior official said on Tuesday.

Commissioner of the Udupi City Municipal Corporation Rayappa said that the rationing system will come into force from Wednesday and will continue till the water in the reservoir reaches comfortable levels.

The dam built across the Swarna river at a place called Baje, which is the only source of water for Udupi city, recorded 3.25 meters of water as against the top level of 6.30 meters.

The decision of water rationing will be reviewed periodically until the reservoir regains its fullest levels, the official said.

The Mangaluru City Corporation resorted to water rationing on Saturday following declining water levels in the reservoir built across the Nethravati river at Thumbe.

Mangaluru: A native of Kerala was arrested on charge of misbehaving with crew on an Air India Express flight while travelling from Dubai to Mangaluru International Airport. The man even threatened to jump from the aircraft, according to officials.

Siddartha Das, the security coordinator for Air India Express, lodged a complaint against the passenger, identified as Muhammad BC from Kannur, Kerala, after which he was caught by the airport security once the flight landed at Mangaluru. He was later handed over to the police.

DCP (Law and Order) Sidharth Goyal said the incident occurred on Flight IX814 on May 8.

When the flight was above the sea, Muhammad reportedly said he wanted to get off the plane, posing a threat to all on board. The unruly flyer was detained by airport security once the flight landed at Mangaluru International Airport and he was handed over to Bajpe police station officials.

Sources added once the flight took off from Dubai, the accused went to the lavatory and thereafter started inquiring with the cabin crew about a person named Krishna who was not on the flight. Muhammad kept on pressing the bell for in-flight assistance, even though the cabin crew members were near at hand. He then picked up a life jacket, gave it to a crew member, and said he wanted to use it upon landing.
