500 meters of inflatable booms laid out encircling the SPM. Disk type skimmer also tried out which is normally used to skim the oil from water.
Representatives from NMPT, MRPL, District Disaster Management, Coast Guard and IOCL left NMPT harbour at 0700hrs by tug Bhuvana and returned in the afternoon after conducting the drill. Scenario for the drill was Pipeline leakage from SPM.
Single point mooring (SPM) is a floating buoy for handling of crude oil from very large tankers which is located at a distance of 17 Kms away from the berths for import of crude oil for MRPL.
NMPT & MRPL are now fully prepared to meet eventualities like oil pollution within NMPT waters, said Capt. Pradeep Mohanty, Deputy Conservator.
