Udupi, Jun 24: Former chief minister and Karnataka BJP chief B S Yeddyurappa has demanded the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to drop Minister for Forests and Environment B Ramanath Rai for directing a Superintendent of Police of Dakshina Kannada to arrest RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat if the latter attempted to disrupt peace in the society.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, Mr. Yeddyurappa said Mr. Bhat was a sincere person and any attempt to arrest him without rhyme or reason would be illegal. Mr. Rai was indulging in such acts because he wanted to appease a particular community, he said.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said that Mr. Siddaramaiah had not followed protocol by not accompanying President Pranab Mukherjee during the latter’s visit to Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple on June 18. This despite the fact that Vishvesha Tirtha Swami of Pejawar Mutt had requested him to visit the temple.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said that he had allocated Rs. 40 crore to develop Kaginele, the birthplace of Kanakadasa, during his tenure as Chief Minister.

The government had woken up late to the problem of farm loan waiver. A large number of farmers had committed suicide in the State and nearly 25% had repaid their loans in the last four to five months. The State government should bring farmers who had repaid loans under the ambit of the waiver.

The State government had not been able to solve the sand extraction problem in the Coastal districts. Though the Union government was giving priority to the construction of national highways, the lack of sand had affected its development and also the progress of other developmental projects.

There was lot of corruption in the implementation of various works of State government.

The State government should stop accusing the Union government of step-motherly treatment. The Centre had been releasing funds to the State regularly for all Centrally-sponsored schemes, Mr. Yeddyurappa said.

Madikeri, May 11: Kodagu police have apprehended the man allegedly responsible for the brutal murder of a minor girl within the confines of Kumbaragadige village in Karnataka's Somwarpet taluk.

Kodagu Superintendent of Police, K Ramarajan, disclosed that the arrested individual is Prakash (32) from Hammiyala village in Somwarpet taluk. However, authorities are still in the process of recovering the severed head of the victim. The perpetrator had absconded with the victim's severed head after committing the crime.

Search operations for the suspect commenced late on Thursday night (May 9), with officials diligently pursuing leads. Acting on information suggesting the suspect's presence in a forested area near the village, the police swiftly moved in and apprehended him.

The victim US Meena, 15, a student of Surlabbi High School, had passed the SSLC examinations, the results of which were announced on May. One same day, she was murdered.

Reportedly, the engagement of the minor girl with the suspect was thwarted by officials from the Women and Child Development department. Subsequently, officials persuaded the girl's parents against proceeding with the marriage.

However, despite these interventions, the suspect forcibly entered her residence during the night, purportedly abducted her, and later perpetrated the heinous crime in a wooded area on the outskirts of the forest, before absconding with her severed head.

Karnataka: BJP leader and advocate G Devaraje Gowda was arrested in connection with a sex abuse video allegedly belonging to Hassan JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna.

According to police, Devaraje Gowda was arrested at Gulihal tollgate by the Hiriyur police in this district on Friday night for leaking the video in a pen drive.

He was arrested on a tip-off received by the Hassan police, which wanted his presence for the case.

Several explicit videos involving Prajwal started making the rounds ahead of the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka, which took place on April 26.

The MP, a grandson of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, is absconding and a 'blue corner' notice has been issued against him by Interpol.

Three FIRs, including charges of rape, molestation, intimidation, blackmailing and threatening, have been registered against Prajwal.

Devaraje Gowda is accused of leaking these videos, which he has categorically rejected.

He contested in the 2023 Assembly elections against JD(S) MLA from Holenarasipura H D Revanna.

H D Revanna, father of Prajwal, is at present in jail on charges of kidnapping a woman, a mother of three.

Ahead of polls, Devaraje Gowda had warned BJP’s central leadership against backing Prajwal Revanna and brought his sex scandal to light.
