Mangaluru, Jul 8: In spite of heavy police deployment, the communally sensitive town of BC Road in Bantwal taluk on Saturday witnessed chaos as miscreants resorted to pelt stones at shops and vehicles.
The stone pelting took place when the funeral procession of murdered RSS activist Sharath Madivala was nearing BC Road. Thousands of Sangh Parivar activists are taking part in the funeral procession.
Meanwhile, hundreds of saffron activists have gathered in B C Road in violation of the prohibitory orders for the second consecutive day.
Police resorted to baton charge to bring the situation under control when the mob began to pelt stones at shops, buses and other vehicles at Kaikamba in BC Road.
All shops and business establishments in BC Road, Melkar and Farangipete towns have been shut down as part of precautionary measures.
28-year-old Sharath breathed his last at a hospital in Mangaluru last evening three days after he was stabbed by unidentified miscreants in B C Road. More details are awaited.
