Mangaluru, Jul 28: Authorities of Mangaluru International Airport have finally addressed the long pending demand of allocating a room to offer prayers for air passengers, especially Muslims at the new integrated terminal building.
Coastaldigest.com, a couple of years ago, had published a report highlighting the need for such a facility at the Airport as many Muslim passengers used to offer prayer in a congested area near the washroom.
Food and Civil Supplies Minister U T Khader, who hails from Mangaluru, had also raised the issue with the airport authorities several times in the past.
Airport director V V Rao told coastaldigest.com that the prayer room was in fact established in order to cater the needs of Hajj pilgrims who flew to Saudi Arabia in five batches from July 24 to 27.
“However, we have decided to retain the prayer-room permanently as it was a long pending demand,” he said, adding that the followers of all the faiths can utilize the room without any hesitation.
