Mangaluru, Nov 3: When 16-year-old Prathiksha realized that she would not live any longer, she took a bold decision to donate her mortal remains to a medical college for research purpose. And her wish is now fulfilled.
Daughter of Kumaraswamy and Vandana couple from Ashok Nagar in Mangaluru, Prathiksha, was a Class 10 student at Sharada Vidyalaya. She lost her battle with bone cancer on October 31.
Apart from her parents, she is survived by her twin-brother and classmate Preetham, and elder brother, Prajwal Krishna, who is a second year degree student.
A bright student, Prathiksha was under treatment for bone cancer for past two years and was bed-ridden from the past four months. The doctors said she had completely recovered but the cancer relapsed again. Recently her health condition got from bad to worse and she breathed her last earlier this week.
A few days before her death, she had requested her parents to donate her body for medical research. Though her parents were taken aback by her decision, they finally fulfilled her wish. A day after she breathed her last her body was donated to a private hospital on November 1.
