Mangalore, August 26: Billavas Dubai and Northern Emirates (BDNE), one of the largest community organisations for Billawas in Dubai, has come forward to distribute over Rs 9.14 lakh among 235 deserving students this year at a scholarship distribution programme on Sunday, August 28.
The programme is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at Shri Adhyaksha Koragappa Memorial Hall, Shri Gokarnanatha Kshetra's Kudroli Temple Complex in Mangalore.
Announcing this at a press meet here on Friday, Jeethendra Suvarna, President, BDNE, said that his organisation, which follows the teachings of great social reformer Swamy Guru Narayan, was dedicated to serve the poor, needy and deserving fellow members of the community.
He said this year's figures have broken all previous records in scholarship distribution by the BDNE, which has remained committed more than ever - as an organisation and as the Billawa diaspora in the UAE – to uphold promise of providing comprehensive educational opportunities for those in dire need.
He said every year the tedious selection process of the deserving students is being smoothly handled by a charitable organisation called Shri Guru Charitable Trust, Mangalore. With the help of their committed voluntary members, the Trust conducts impartial surveys on the flood of applications they receive both directly and those being received by BDNE. The Trust's professionally prepared survey result with clear comments after actual physical visits to each and every home is then forwarded to BDNE to scrutinise further and finalise with the clear consent of the Working Committee of BDNE, he informed.
Mr Suvarna said MBBS, BHMS, BAMS, BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING, CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT, MASTER OF ARTS/POST GRADUATES, DIPLOM ENGINEERS, GRADUATES, ITI, NURSING, SSLC, PUC and other students would benefit from this year's scholarship.
Among 235 beneficiaries 220 students will be presented with scholarships, seven students will be presented with talent awards and eight unhealthy students will be presented with special awards, he informed.
The function will be graced by Janardhana Poojary, Former Minister, Govt. of India, Jaya C Suvarna, President of Billawa Maha Mandala, H S Sairam, President of Shri Kshetra Kudroli, Vasudeva Kotian, Chairman of Bharat Co-operative Bank, Mumbai, Krishnappa Poojary, Principal of Narayana Guru Pre-university College, Belthangadi, Muddu Moodubelle, Poet, Writer and Senior Staff at All India Radio & Trustees of Guru Charitable Trust, who will release and distribute the scholarships.
