New Delhi, Dec 20: At a time when at least 22 farmers have lost their lives and lakhs of farmers are camping in the deadly winter at various borders around Delhi, demanding the repeal of the contentious farm laws, PM Narendra Modi’s meeting with a delegation of farmers in Kutch, Gujarat dominated the headlines last week.

Media reports said the prime minister met farmers (of his own choice) to dispel their worries and address their grievances regarding farms laws, but it was later revealed after an investigation that it was all lies propagated by the media with an aim to:

Divert the attention from the protest
And to send out a message that PM is not indifferent to the farmers’ plight and protest
An investigation by Junputh (a Hindi website) and NH revealed that those who met the PM during his Kutch visit were BJP activists from Sikh community, not farmers. And the topic of the discussion was not even related to the protest but the construction of a Gurudwara in Lakhpat Taluka in Kutch region.

The person who led the delegation of the so called farmers is BJP general secretary of Kutch zone – Raju Bhai Sardar. Donning an orange turban, Raju Sardar can be seen sitting in front of the PM in the picture tweeted out by the news agency ANI on December 15.

While tweeting the picture, ANI and the Twitter handle of the Chief Minister of Gujarat said the prime minister met with various local groups from Kutch, Kutchi women involved in handicraft activities and “Sikh farmers.” Raju Sardar also claimed that he led a delegation of farmers to meet the PM.

But when a reporter from the TV news channel Aaj Tak asked one of the farmers about the topic discussed in the meeting, he said that the discussion was focused on constriction of a Gurudwara.

BJP Propaganda alert ⚠️

Koi sharam h ya nhi Jhasaram tumko ya Sharam ko bhi privatise kardiya hoga tumne to kisi tucchi company ko?

You are a PM of this great nation and the nation ashamed of you such a loser you are Narendra Modi

Meanwhile, when PM Modi was holding a meeting with the so-called farmers, a group of real farmers were agitating against the farm laws in Kutch. But the news of protesting farmers was completely boycotted by the Gujarati as well as the national media.

Those who know Kutch politics have pointed out that Raju Bhai Sardar’s real name is Jugraj Singh and he belongs to Nara village. A restaurateur, Sardar rose to prominence in BJP’s hierarchy after he led a similar delegation of Sikhs to meet Modi who as Chief Minister of Gujarat was then facing Sikhs’ angst over freezing of land accounts in 2013.

Before becoming zonal secretary of the BJP, Sardar was elected Sarpanch of Nara with active support from the BJP activists.

Nara is known as mini-Punjab of Kutch region due to a large population of Sikh community. In Nara and Kothara villages of this region, Sikh Community dominates the demography.

His website claims that he is a member of a 15-point programme committee for minority welfare. Currently busy with the construction of 18 rooms resort in Lakhpat Sarai, Raju Bhai Sardar also heads the Lakhpat Taluka Gurudwara.

US and British warplanes have carried out fresh airstrikes on the Yemeni capital Sana'a and other regions, intensifying attacks as Yemeni Armed Forces continue their anti-Israeli operations in support of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip amid the regime’s genocide.

Yemen’s al-Masirah television network reported that US and British aircraft targeted the premises of the Yemeni Defense Ministry in the the Assafi'yah district of Sana’a early on Tuesday.

Local sources heard loud explosions echoing from the site of the strikes.

The report, however, did not provide any details regarding potential casualties or damage.

For his part, the Yemeni information minister vehemently denounced the latest US and British airstrikes against Sana’a, stating that the act of aggression “falls within the framework of attempts to diminish the Yemeni nation’s will to support Palestinian people.”

Hashem Sharaf al-Din underscored that enemies are unable to undermine Yemen’s military capabilities, as its government and nation are standing firm in the face of their vicious and terrorist attacks.

This came hours after the spokesman for the Yemeni Armed Forces announced in a statement that the country’s missile units had carried out a military operation against an Israeli military target in Tel Aviv, using a hypersonic Palestine 2 ballistic missile

Brigadier General Yahya Saree noted that the missile strike was in support of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, and successfully achieved its desired objectives.

The Yemeni Armed Forces will continue their operations, and will strike all Israeli facilities within the occupied territories, Saree pointed out, adding that such strikes will not stop unless the ongoing aggression on Gaza ends and the siege is completely lifted.

Early on Monday, American and British warplanes conducted a joint airstrike on targets at the Midi district in Yemen’s northern province of Hajjah.

US and British military aircraft also targeted a number of locations in the At Tuhayta district of the strategic western province of Hudaydah. Details on potential human or material losses from the strikes were not quickly disclosed.

Yemenis have declared their open support for Palestine’s struggle against the Israeli occupation since the regime launched a devastating war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, after the territory’s resistance movements carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Flood against the occupying entity.

The Yemeni armed forces have said they will not stop their attacks as long as Israel continues its ground and aerial offensives in Gaza.

So far, Israel has killed at least 45,028 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 106,962 others in Gaza.

In October, the US military unleashed B-2 stealth bombers to bomb Yemen in support of Israel. Since then, attacks against Yemen have continued in a bid to halt the retaliatory attacks by Sana'a.

In a significant milestone, the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Higher Primary School in Newpadpu, Harekala, has introduced a bilingual Kannada-English medium this academic year, a move spearheaded by Padma Shri awardee Harekala Hajabba. The school has so far received 13 admissions for its Class 1 bilingual program.

This initiative is part of a broader effort by the state government, which approved 38 schools across the district to launch bilingual mediums. Expressing his delight, Hajabba shared that he had been advocating for a bilingual school for years. "The bilingual medium will greatly benefit students in this region who otherwise rely on private schools. However, we currently face a shortage of classrooms. Construction of two additional classrooms is underway, and once completed, we expect higher admissions," he said.

The school had previously been permitted to introduce LKG and UKG classes in the last academic year. According to the school’s headmistress, Rajeshwari, while the pre-primary sections have seen good enrolment, the bilingual Class 1 faced challenges, securing only 13 students. She attributed this to the late notification of permission, which arrived a month after the academic year began, leading many children to enroll elsewhere.

Rajeshwari remains optimistic about the future. "We expect better admissions next academic year as awareness about bilingual education at this government school grows," she said, adding that the classroom shortage will soon be addressed.

Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) Venkatesha Subraya Patagara noted that bilingual schools across Dakshina Kannada have generally received a positive response, with some schools enrolling more than 100 students. The effort to offer bilingual education in government schools marks a step forward in providing affordable, quality education to underserved regions.

Dhaka: Bangladesh's interim government said on Monday that it has sent a diplomatic note to India to send back deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina to Dhaka.

Hasina, 77, has been living in exile in India since Aug 5 when she fled the country amid the student-led protests that toppled her 16-year regime. Dhaka-based International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has issued arrest warrants for Hasina and several former Cabinet ministers, advisers, and military and civil officials for "crimes against humanity and genocide".

“We have sent a note verbale (diplomatic message) to the Indian government saying that Bangladesh wants her back here for the judicial process,” Foreign Affairs Adviser or de facto foreign minister Touhid Hossain told reporters at his office.

Earlier in the morning, Home Advisor Jahangir Alam said his office has sent a letter to the foreign ministry to facilitate the ousted premier's extradition from India.

“We have sent a letter to the foreign ministry regarding her extradition. The process is currently underway,” he told reporters in response to a query.

Alam said an extradition treaty between Dhaka and New Delhi already exists and Hasina could be brought back to Bangladesh under the treaty.
