Sringeri, Apr 19: A tense atmosphere prevailed in Sringeri town of Chikmagalur district after the brutal killing of a Mangalorean youth by the sleuths of Anti Naxal Force.
The incident has triggered communal tension in the region. It is learnt that Sangh Parivar activists tried to attack the victim's family members, who visited Sringeri to bring back the dead body. They also have reportedly pelted stones at few vehicles. However, local police did not confirm the incident.
Coldblooded Murder?
Even though ANF has claimed that they mistook the group for Naxals, local residents felt that it was a deliberate murder.
“Now, ANF is claiming that they had to open fire in self-defence. They are accusing the cattle traders of carrying lethal weapons. This is an apparent lie. Deep bullet wound on the chest of the dead body proves that ANF personnel fired fatal shot from a close range,” said a local resident on condition of anonymity.
Another resident said that ANF personnel are well aware of the fact that there are no naxals in the region. “They have killed the youth only after seeing cattle inside their pick-up truck,” he said adding that it was a coldblooded murder and not an act of self-defence.
