Udupi, October 10: A delegation led by Congress leaders from Brahmavar submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, demanding the district administration to stop the stone mining, being carried out without any permission from the government, in Miyyaru of Nalkuru village, near Brahmavar.
In the memorandum they said that the stone crusher by name Unit Rock Industries functioning without any approval from the Department of Environment or any other government department had affected over 25 families living around the mining site.
Houses there have developed cracks on the walls, crusher powder spread in paddy fields and open wells has made the fields unfit for cultivation and water in the wells un potable.
Udupi Block Congress President Pramod Madhwaraj said that the cattle let out for grazing in Miyaru area had been injured during the explosions.
Govinda Naik, an activist who had obtained information as to not obtaining licenses by the quarry owners, through RTI Act, said that he had been receiving threats from the partners of the quarry.
Brahmavar Block Congress President Rajesh Shetty Birthi, Taluk Panchayath member Umesh Naik, Prithwiraj Shetty and others were present.
