Congress Nadige-Janara Balige' launched

Mangalore, June 15: As per the directions of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, the District Congress Committee launched 'Congress Nadige-Janara Balige' on Thursday, June 15, at Bengre Kasba, here.


Prior to launching the two-month long campaign, District Congress Committee President Ramanath Rai said a team has been constituted in each block with one district-level leader and two observors to look into the activities during campaign.


The campaign intends to visit all the booths in all the eight constituencies and create awareness on the achievements of the UPA government. The campaign aims at strengthening the party at the grassroot-level.


He said “the campaign aims at informing the masses on the UPA government's programmes like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), National Rural Health Mission, National Horticulture Mission, Krishi Vikasa Yojane, programmes meant for the welfare of minorities like 15-point programme. It will highlight the failure of the BJP led government in the State to distribute sites and Ashraya houses to the beneficiaries in the last three years.”


Rai said that pension for aged and disabled are pending for the last three months and the government has failed to set the problems right. The government is busy in getting publicity for the Central government sponsored programmes through advertisements.

Udupi, Nov 11: The Karkala town police in Udupi have arrested Krishna Naik, the sculptor responsible for installing a 33-foot Parashurama statue at Umikkal Hill in Bailur, Karkala taluk. 

Naik, the owner of Krish Art World and a resident of Bengaluru's Visvesvaraya Layout, was apprehended in Mahe, part of the Union Territory of Puducherry, for allegedly substituting a look-alike statue in place of a genuine bronze figure at the Parashurama Theme Park in Karkala.

Udupi Superintendent of Police Dr. Arun K confirmed the arrest, stating that Naik faces charges under Sections 420 (cheating) and 409 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code. 

This legal action followed a complaint lodged in June by Krishna Shetty, a resident of Nallur village, Karkala. Shetty claimed that Naik had received a payment of ₹1,25,50,000 from Udupi Nirmithi Kendra for the installation of a bronze Parashurama statue. However, Naik allegedly deceived the government by installing a replica instead.

The statue was unveiled on January 27, 2023, by then Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. Current Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has since ordered a CID investigation to probe deeper into the alleged fraud surrounding the statue's installation at the theme park.
