The two had barged into the cowshed of one Mahadevi, resident of Kana in Surathkal and did not just attempt to take away the cattle but also threatened the family members by showing weapons when they tried to protect the cattle.
The continuous episodes of cattle lifting had irked the local residents of Surathkal who warned the police of staging stir if the problems pertaining to cattle lifting is not resolved. Acting on this, the police formed special teams and started looking for the culprits. On Sunday the police receive crucial information following which they nabbed Hussein Kabir alias Kabbi alias Bodda Kabbi and Jabbar Hussein at Krishnapura 7th block. Hussein Kabir is the close aide of Kammaradi Haneef, a notorious inter-state cattle lifter.
During interrogation they revealed that they had lifted cattle from residence of Beeranna Shetty at Mukka with the help of three others and threatened the family members of Mahadevi and stole away the cattle from Kana. The gang has also lifted cattle from Koppa, Sringeri, Balehonnur, Hariharapura and other parts of the state.
The gang has been lifting abandoned cattle and domesticated cattle and has been selling them at Jokatte, Mangalore, Ullal and Bantwal areas.
The gang is said to have stolen over 20,000 cattle over the last seven years.
Hussein Kabir has several cases pending against him at Chikmagalur district court. Though warrants were issued against him he had been absconding.
