Bengaluru, Jul 25: Home Minister G Parameshwara on Sunday said yoga, meditation and counselling sessions will be conducted for policemen to help them withstand pressure.
“The cops work under pressure from politicians and senior officers. They also have problems in their domestic lives. Many of them are unable to withstand the pressure and problems. Hence, they are committing suicides,” he said.
Parameshwara said the Home Department has mooted the idea of conducting yoga, meditation and counselling sessions regularly to help police personnel find solutions to their problems. Such sessions would also make them tougher to face problems. The Home Department has discussed the proposal with counsellors and psychiatrists, he added.
The minister said that training curriculum for constables and sub-inspectors would be modified. Modern gadgets and technology-equipped vehicles will be given to the police department. The government is planning to recruit policemen on a regular basis to reduce burden on those in service, he added.
To a query, Parameshwara told reporters that the CID was yet to submit reports on suicides of DySPs Kallappa Handibag and M K Ganapathi.
