The party also took objection to the proposed ban on arecanut and the state government's move of restricting CET to government professional colleges.
B Shekar, joint secretary of CPI addressing the protesters said that union government has asked domestic LPG users to compulsorily link Aadhaar numbers with bank accounts and distributors to get subsidy under the DBT scheme, which is not affordable by a common man.
Government has to withdraw its order and allow everyone to use LPG without linking Aadhaar numbers, he said demanding to retain the old system.
Further, B Shekar said that the union government has proposed ban on areca, which will only worsen the existing situation.
“In our country there are huge number of families dependent on arecanut farming. They will be left in dire straits. This will have affect on economy too” he said adding that the government was more bothered of the corporate companies because ban on areca will promote cigarette and other tobacco products.
V Seetharam Berinja of CPIspeaking at the protest said that the state government is putting common man o trouble because it wants to promote private colleges.
Speaking about the government's move of restricting Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority for admissions to professional courses for 2014-15 only for government medical, dental and engineering colleges he said, it is to promote private colleges. This shows how government is not bothered about the general public.
He urged government to stop its dual policy of satisfying private colleges and industries and neglecting the common man.
