Mangalore, January 2: A 24-year-old youth, who had allegedly eloped with a minor girl belonging to a different community last week, was brutally attacked by a group of Bajrang Dal activists in the city on Monday.
A critically injured Mushtaq, a resident of Puttur, has been admitted to Government Wenlock Hospital for emergency treatment.
It is learnt that Mushtaq, had taken his girl-friend, a Standard-X girl to Bangalore on December 30.
The girl had left home convincing her parents that she was going on a picnic with her friends. However, when the girl did not return, the panicked parents approached the police and a case of missing was filed.
The Bajrang Dal activists, who gathered information about the homeward journey of the couple by bus, waylaid them in city and thrashed the boy, accusing him of raping a minor Hindu girl.
A case has been registered at Kadri police station and investigation is on.
