Bangalore, April 15: A quarrel during a cricket match played near the Hombegowdanagar slum in the Siddapura police station limits claimed the life of a youngster, and 10 people were injured in the subsequent group clash on Saturday evening.

Police identified the deceased as Ravi and the accused as Sandeep, both aged around 23.

The youngsters, as usual, were playing cricket at a nearby ground when bowler Sandeep, instead of bowling over-arm, bowled under-arm. This was objected to by many, including Ravi, resulting in a quarrel among the players.

Stabbed in the neck

An enraged Sandeep left the ground and bought a bottle of beer from a nearby liquor shop. After draining the bottle, he smashed it and stabbed Ravi in the neck with the jagged edge. The other players were shocked at the turn of events and immediately rushed a bleeding Ravi to a nearby hospital. However, he was declared ‘brought dead' at the hospital.

After Ravi's death, friends of the accused as well as the victim got into a fight that injured 10 people.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Sonia Narang said that the situation was tense in the locality and additional forces had been deployed.

Arrested

The Siddapura police have arrested Sandeep and registered a case of murder against him.
