Police said E Murugan, a resident of Keezhkuppam village in Tiruvannamalai district in TN, along with his friend P Vaikundavasan, 30, strangled his father G Ezhumalai (58), a forest guard posted at Paruvathamalai forest.
Police said Murugan, a Class X dropout, came to know that there were bright chances of him getting into government service if his father, who was to retire in another four months, died while in service. He hatched a plan to murder him with the help of his friend.
The duo, on learning that Ezhumalai was staying at a family-owned farm, went there and killed him using an electric wire on April 23. Ezhumalai's wife E Thangam found his body and lodged a police complaint. "There were no major clues initially but when we started inquiring with their relatives, we suspected the involvement of Murugan ," inspector and investigation officer D Kumar said.
Inquiries also revealed that Ezhumalai did not trust Murugan, an alcoholic, and kept him away from all financial affairs. On suspicion that police were after them, Murugan and Vaikundavasan surrendered before the village administrative officer. The VAO handed the duo to police. During interrogations, Murugan confessed to murdering his father with the help of his friend, police said.
